When I applied for my first game studio job in 2001, I knew that a good resume was important. Naturally, I searched the internet, hoping to find some good tips and follow up patterns that worked. There was nothing much then. But what I found was conflicting and contradictory. Not helpful.

That was a long time ago. Today there is 100 times more advice and 1000 times more conflicting and conflicting. Still not helpful!
Nothing speaks louder than an example that worked. So I dug into my archives to find actual resumes from people who applied when I ran the engineering department at a mid-sized game studio. They are all very different in terms of layout, organization and style, but they have one important thing in common: they are all hired.
Let’s take a look and see what we can learn from these resumes, which are – by definition – winners. I think we’re going to see some awesome patterns that can keep you busy too.

These game developer resumes are very different. And in reality, the candidates had very different career paths, each built around their individual strengths and interests. So at first it might seem like you can’t learn much by studying them.
This is the similarity. But maybe we can learn something from the differences? Of course, they all have completely different layouts and formatting. But they all get their point across. They show who they are and what they can do.
So the real lesson may be this: the layout of your resume isn’t as important as everyone wants you to think. Content matters, not tabs, fonts, and margins. Fonts will not employ you! Being awesome gets you hired. Show them who you are, why you’re great, and why they should hire you. Get that part right and nothing else matters.
Making games is an incredibly rewarding career, but it’s hard to break into if you don’t have the insider knowledge. This book levels the playing field. Department work experience is an integral part of your esports product manager resume. This is the only thing that a recruiter really cares about and pays the most attention to.
However, this section isn’t just a list of your previous esports product manager’s responsibilities. It aims to present you as a healthy candidate by showcasing your relevant achievements and should be tailored specifically to the esports product manager position you are applying for. The work experience section should be a detailed summary of your last 3 or 4 positions.
Be sure to make education a priority on your esports product manager resume. If you’ve been working for a few years and have a few solid positions to show for it, put your education after your experience as an esports product manager. For example, if you have a PhD in neuroscience and a master’s degree in the same field, simply list your Ph.D. In addition to the Ph.D., then comes the Master’s, then the Bachelor’s, and finally, the Associate’s.
