DUBAI, Sept 29 () – Qatar Airways will resume flights with Airbus ( AIR.PA ) A380s earlier than planned to make up for lost capacity at the regulator’s base in some of its A350s, according to a report published on Wednesday.

The airline parked its 10 A380s indefinitely after the collapse of the COVID-19 on long-haul flights, and said it would only use five of them once they returned to service.

Executive Traveler, citing the airline’s chief executive, said Qatar Airways would operate flights with five of its parked A380s from November, with all 10 possibly returning next year.
“We have to find capacity for our passengers who need airlines to bring them to their loved ones for Christmas,” Akbar Al Baker said.
The five A380s would give the Gulf carrier more than half the capacity of 4,000 seats it lost in the Qatari regulatory base of 13 A350s in August.
The grounding followed allegations by Qatar Airways that the fuselage surface under the paint on each of the planes had deteriorated.
Qatar Airways Will Fly To 80 Cities By June 2020
The airline has been locked in a months-long public dispute with Airbus over the allegations, insisting it would not take any A350 deliveries until the issue was resolved.
Al Baker in January said that the A380s – the world’s largest passenger aircraft – were the “worst aircraft” when it came to emissions.
Executive Traveler also reported that Qatar Airways was looking to hire “additional” Boeing ( BA.N ) 777 pilots from British Airways for “at least the next six months.” Qatar Airways is a minority owner of British Airways owner IAG (ICAG.L). Qatar Airways continues its expansion in the United States with plans to operate more than 100 flights per week between 12 cities across the United States and its hub in Doha. By comparison, regional rival Emirates will also serve about 12 US cities by the end of July but will only operate about 70 flights a week.
Four US gateways – Chicago, Los Angeles, New York JFK and Washington D.C. – will increase to double daily flights starting in July, while Dallas Fort Worth will increase to 12 flights per week.

Boston, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle will increase to daily flights and Houston will continue as a daily service. Philadelphia will initially increase to five times a week before moving to daily flights starting July 21. Atlanta will continue to operate five flights per week.
The expansion reflects the freedom of vaccinated Americans to begin traveling internationally again. Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said his airline is also expanding services to popular leisure destinations such as Cape Town, Maldives, Phuket, Seychelles and Zanzibar as travel restrictions are lifted.
Qatar Airways aggressively expanded into the United States last November long before the recovery even began and was so eager to drive American passengers that it was the only international airline to serve a special Thanksgiving meal that same month.
The airline has also managed to strengthen strategic ties with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue which Qatar Airways claims allows it to connect to more cities and airports in the United States than any other airline.
