When To Use Multipurpose Paper Vs. Copy Paper
Most often, it is enough to send a digital CV and a cover letter to apply for a job. Do you

Because the type of paper you use for your resume is going to make the very first impression on a potential recruiter or employer. A poor quality resume paper will make you look schlumpy and slouchy. Who would like to hire someone like that?
We’ve printed resume examples on over ten types of stationery to help you choose the paper type for your resume that suits your tastes and needs!
Now let’s see how different types of resume paper will impact how our resumes look when printed.
“Crisp” is one of our fairly basic resume templates. Not too many graphics, not many colors. Printing a simple resume like this on ivory paper will add a nice touch of class without risking it being unreadable.
Should You Include A Picture On Your Resume Or Cv In 2022?
“Cascade” consists of two contrasting columns. It has more colors than the previous model, but not a lot of shading. Again, ivory paper looks very professional and can reflect your individuality. If you have a high quality printer, the dark column will look great on whatever paper color you choose.
“Cubic”, like “Cascade” uses a side column to display certain information. The difference? The column is light colored. This subtle shade of gray looks best on white resume paper.
Now all you have to do is print your CV on a random sheet of paper according to your color preferences, right?
It has the least transparency. It is also the whitest and brightest. Plus, it’s the firmest of the three, so the least likely to wrinkle.
The Ultimate Guide To Card Stock Part 2: Paper Weights & Sheet Sizes
To better show how texture influences the look of a CV, we’ve chosen two templates – “Crisp” and “Cascade” – for this comparison.
In the image above you can see plain resume paper that is 100% cotton – a high cotton content adds texture and extra softness to otherwise unexciting plain resume paper. (We’ll see how important cotton content is for resume paper, read on to learn more about it!)
Historically, all crucial documents – certificates, awards, government announcements or official invitations – have always been written or printed on parchment paper.
While a resume on parchment paper may impress some employers, for others it will be a potential disappointment.

Note: The parchment paper we used for this comparison is ivory. Ivory parchment paper can appear grayish, sometimes with a green finish.
This resume paper texture will show off all graphics and text clearly, and it feels great to the touch.
Paper with a laid finish is designed to mimic the appearance of paper when it was first invented. The manufacturing process uses a dandy roller to imprint the warp line pattern into the paper. It’s very sophisticated and unique, but…
Avoid this if your resume contains many dark-colored elements that require a lot of ink, or if you don’t have a top-notch printer handy.

When creating a resume in our builder, drag and drop bullet points, skills, and autofill boring stuff. Spell check?
As I mentioned earlier, the cotton content gives the paper a bit of texture. Result, as you can see in the photo, the cotton paper (left) does not reflect light.
The high cotton content helps improve fonts and ensures that the colors of the printed CV better reflect the original colors of your digital copy.
But there’s another difference you can’t see: once you touch cotton paper, you’ll be amazed at how pleasantly soft it is.

With all these samples and information, it’s high time we announced our final verdict for the best resume, right?
This study compared the performance of otherwise identical resumes depending on the type of layout (formal or creative) of a given resume and the paper (white or colored) on which it was printed.
Although ivory paper was not included in the study, the message is clear: white paper is the safest choice, the unconventional color of resume paper will hurt your chances of landing a job.
Another interesting study showed that more than 1 in 5 recruiters would reject a candidate whose resume was printed on decorative paper without batting an eyelid.

If you think a non-standard resume paper size might make your resume stand out from the pile, you’re half right.
But “stand out”, in this case, would mean “out of shape”. And when it doesn’t fit, we throw it away.
(Note that most types of resume paper come with a watermark that shows when you view the resume against the light. If you don’t want a watermark on your resume, be prepared to pay a little more .)
