Colored paper or paper with a transparent texture may not be the best choice for everyone, but it is good for individuals in graphics or other artistic professions; It allows you to showcase your design aesthetic.

A resume is not the place to show off your favorite color, as it can be a sign of poor judgment in some cases. However, there’s nothing wrong with individualism, as long as it doesn’t deviate from content or fall too far outside of commercial standards (again, unless you’re ‘an art level that requires you to think outside the box and express creativity.’).
Regardless of your industry, paper weight will make a difference, and application paper should not be too thin or be considered card stock. One choice many executives use is quality white or ivory paper made from cotton or linen; These options will complement a strong and compelling resume. You can find these options at many retail stores like Target, Office Depot – Amazon is another option if you want to ship directly to you.
Don’t use solid bright colors unless it’s part of the overall design aesthetic or you’re in the art business; It’s great to be creative and bold, just keep it professional.
By the way, your application should not only have the right paper, but powerful language and great design to match! The Internet is a great tool for reading sample resumes for individuals in your field.

A type of paper designed for printing resumes and cover letters. For the best quality, you should choose paper that weighs 32 pounds and has a 75-100% cotton content. You should have a copy of your resume printed on good quality paper with you during career fairs and job interviews.
This is because the type of paper you use for your application is going to make the first impression on the employer or potential employer. A poor quality resume paper can make you look thin and dull. Who would want to hire someone like that?

We’ve printed sample resumes on ten types of resume stationery to help you choose the type of paper that best suits your taste and needs!
Now, let’s see how our resumes look when printed on different types of resume paper.
“Crisp” is one of our basic resume templates. Not much graphics, not much color. Printing a simple resume like this on ivory paper adds a nice, classy touch without risking obscurity.
“Cascade” consists of two contrasting columns. It’s got more color than the previous template, but not as much shading. Again, ivory paper is more professional and reflects your individuality. If you’ve got a high-quality printer, a dark column will look good no matter what paper color you go for.
Resume Design Principles That Will Get You Hired
A “cubic” like a “layer” uses a side column to display some information. The difference? The column is light colored. This subtle shade of gray looks great on white application paper.
Now you have to print your application on random paper according to your color preferences, right?
It has very little display. It is very white and bright. In addition, it is the sturdiest of the three, making it less likely to shatter.
We’ve chosen two templates—”crisp” and “cascade”—for this comparison to better show how texture affects the look of a resume.

In the picture above, you can see a plain application sheet made of 100% cotton – the higher cotton content adds some texture and extra softness. (We’ll find out how important cotton content is to resume paper, read on to learn more!)
Historically, all important documents—certificates, awards, government announcements, or official invitations—were always written or printed on paper.
While a parchment paper resume may appeal to some employers, to others it’s a “hey, Stephanie, was this delivered by a carrier pigeon or a guy in a high-wheeler?”
Note: The parchment we used for this comparison is ivory. Ivory parchment paper appears gray, sometimes with a green tinge.
Resumes, Cover Letters, And Portfolios
This resume paper layout clearly displays all the graphic elements and text and feels very nice to the touch.
Paper is made with a set coating to mimic how it looked when paper was first invented. The manufacturing process uses a tandy roll to impress the pattern of chain lines onto the paper. It is very subtle and unique, but-
Avoid it if your resume has a lot of dark-colored elements that require a lot of ink, or if you don’t have a high-quality printer.

As I mentioned earlier, the cotton content gives the paper some texture. As a result, as you can see in the picture, the cotton paper (on the left) does not reflect light.
A higher cotton content helps improve fonts and colors on a printed resume better reflect the original colors of your digital copy.
But there’s one more difference that you can’t see – as soon as you touch the cotton paper, you’ll be amazed at how pleasantly soft it is.
With these samples and information, it’s time we announce the final verdict for the best application paper, right?
How Job Applicants Try To Hack Résumé Reading Software
This study compared how similar resumes performed based on what type of layout (formal vs. creative) and what paper (white vs. color) a given resume was printed on.
While the study didn’t include ivory paper, the message is clear: white paper is a safe choice, and an unusual resume paper color can hurt your chances of landing the job.
Another interesting study found that more than 1 in 5 recruiters will be rejected
