The National Resume Writers Association
The National Resume Writers Association – I have moved more than 35 times in my life, lived in a dozen different countries, on four continents and learned six languages in the process. For most of my life I was the “new guy” – in school, office, city, culture. I know the challenge of finding your footing in a new environment, as well as the opportunity it offers to reinvent yourself. And I understand the critical importance of knowing the local culture, whether in a country or an organization, in communicating clearly and effectively.
I know intercultural communication. I’ve lived it all my life and practiced it most of my professional life, including 28 years as a diplomat, representing the United States. I apply these same skills to help others facing transition. Maybe you’re starting a new career, or changing jobs (and maybe cities or countries), or desperately looking for a job. I can help you present yourself convincingly, authentically, and with a resume tailored to the job you’re interested in.

The National Resume Writers Association (NRVA) is one of the most challenging in the industry. The only way a writer can earn NCRV certification is by demonstrating a high level of expertise in resume strategy, business writing, grammar and punctuation, proofreading, and electronic resume preparation. After receiving accreditation, NCRVs have proven themselves several times over as the best in their field – top professionals dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in business. After that, NCRVs are required to obtain CE each year to maintain their certification which keeps them at the cutting edge of this ever-changing industry.
Resume Master: Difficult Concepts And Client Formats
The CPRV credential is the industry standard for professional resume writers. It certifies that the owner has achieved “the highest standards and qualifications in the resume writing industry.” It is issued by the executive director of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches, upon the recommendation of a certification board, upon successful completion of a rigorous examination process.
“There is no nobler occupation in the world than helping another human being – helping someone succeed.” – Alan Loy McGinnis
I cannot say enough about Doug’s services. I was having trouble getting results from my existing resume, so I hired Doug to help me revise, rewrite, and refresh my CV. Doug’s process of listening to his clients about their experiences and translating those experiences into action-oriented descriptions really pays off. After a long job search with my old resume, the first prospective employer I sent the new and improved version of Doug Barnes to not only gave me an interview but hired me in a job that I am extremely happy about. I really give Doug a lot of credit for helping me succeed in that endeavor.
“I’ve never worked with anyone on my resume before other than friends or family, so having a professional resume writer was new to me. Doug made it easy. He reviewed my resume and then asked me questions. I gave him the information and got my first draft. I opened it and just sat back in my chair and stared at the computer. It felt like all the hard work I had done over the years was being honored and seen. It was then placed in a summary order.

As I read it, I felt myself come alive and realize that I have a lot to offer. I became excited to contribute to the new work environment. I was even able to see how my skills and experience could translate into new fields that I had never worked in before.
Most of all, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders as I imagined being able to click “Send” after composing my cover letter, knowing that my new resume was a true representation of my background. I felt proud of my achievements.

“Thank you Carla for your very detailed and careful editing of ALL my online and print materials. My project was very difficult as it involved cross-referencing my LinkedIn profile with an online portfolio as well as other printed materials – all of which required perfect alignment and clarity – Carla carefully collated, edited, revised and suggested alternative structures to create the best versions of myself. “
Resume and LinkedIn Profile Writer Karla Deter Receives Nationally Certified Online Profile Professional (NCOPE) Accreditation After Completing NRVA Training
“I contacted Carla based on a search on LinkedIn for a content and social media expert! I hired her after interviewing several candidates. We worked together on various projects where she brought forth great ideas, connections, relevant research and customized strategies that supported my programs and expanded my reach. I plan to work with Carla again and have already recommended her to people in my network.” To become a Nationally Certified Resume Writer, an applicant must first prove their experience and dedication to the resume writing industry by completing a sample two-part review process. Applicants must first pass the NCRV Study Guide Review Quiz and then submit a sample writing package (resume and cover letter) for review by the NCRV Review Committee. This submission will be assessed on grammar, strategy and adherence to the NCRV Study Guide. Writers who do not meet NCRV standards must pursue one or more avenues for professional development before resubmitting a new sample.
NCRV applicants must also demonstrate their experience and commitment with evidence of recent training and development with NRVA in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) earned through various webinars and trainings. CEUs can be earned before completing a sample or before taking an exam.
The National Résumé Writers’ Association
Although it is not a prerequisite, in our experience, those with the greatest chance of success on the NCRV exam have at least 2 years of experience writing resumes and cover letters, either as a new or experienced business owner or as a staff member with a faculty career, workforce investment, or military transition center.
Once a candidate receives a “pass” on the sample submission and earns at least 10 CEUs, candidates participate in a rigorous exam administered by the NRVA. Our exam, as well as our prequalification process, is the most challenging in the industry. The only way a writer can earn NCRV certification is by demonstrating a high level of expertise in resume strategy, business writing, grammar and punctuation, proofreading, and electronic resume preparation.
Once accredited, NCRVs have proven themselves time and time again to be the best in their field – top professionals dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in business. After that, NCRVs are required to acquire CEUs each year to maintain their certification, which keeps them on top of this ever-changing industry.
Nationally Certified Professional Online Profile (NCOPE) writers and trainers must complete a rigorous five-week training program and pass an end-of-course exam to demonstrate their expertise in creating branded, engaging, conversational, value-based LinkedIn profiles and demonstrate their understanding of the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning and the role LinkedIn plays in today’s job search, career marketing and social recruiting.

In addition, they must demonstrate proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter – the platform used by most recruiters to find and screen talent. Last but not least, NCOPE-certified writers and trainers must demonstrate an understanding of best practices for finding, building, and nurturing networks online, and how to leverage LinkedIn’s networking power and settings as part of the job search.
NCOPE-certified writers and trainers must complete annual refresher training to ensure they are up-to-date on LinkedIn’s rapidly evolving platform.
