The number of confirmed coronavirus cases at SUNY Oswego since the start of the fall semester has risen to 223, more than half of which have been found in the past week, according to state data.

Since Sept. 12, the school has confirmed 127 cases, according to the school’s website, which was updated late Saturday afternoon.

The outbreak of the epidemic has caused the school to temporarily switch to online learning, stop in-person dining on campus and suspend all fall sports and extracurricular activities.
Students stay on campus. Health experts say that’s better than sending them home, where they can inadvertently continue to spread the virus.
The State University of New York system requires schools with at least 100 incidents in a two-week period to switch to online learning. These 100 cases must include students who come to or live on campus.
As of this weekend, SUNY Oswego has surpassed that 100-case threshold. As of Saturday, the school reported 110 cases in that two-week period, which runs from Sept. 12 to Sept. 25.

There are currently 126 active cases at the school, according to data updated Saturday afternoon. According to the school, 97 people have recovered.
SUNY Oneonta reported four new confirmed cases Saturday, bringing the school’s total to 680 since the start of the semester. The epidemic forced Otsego County School to switch to distance education for the rest of the semester.

Visit the Virtual Resource Center to meet with peer navigators — your first stop for help with your resume, cover letter, online career tools, LinkedIn, and personal branding. All students are welcome to participate in the first Virtual Student Involvement Fair. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. via the university’s Laker Life website.
“Any group that enrolled in college last academic year and is in good standing is welcome to participate,” said Mike Paestella, associate director of campus life. “Things are radically different this fall for club sports in that they don’t have seasons due to COVID-19 restrictions, and even our NCAA athletes don’t have a traditional fall.”

In some ways, Paestella hopes organizations will use such opportunities to their advantage, as he believes it will allow them to be creative on a virtual platform called Engage.
“They can take this opportunity to promote, educate and get people to want to be involved,” Paestella said.
Students have several portals to register and join different clubs and organizations. During the fair, students interested in joining the club will see a screen, or if the club is not live at the time, they can click on the “Contact Us” tab and reach the organizations by email.
“Emailing the different club officers is the best way to know, especially this fall, because sometimes I’d say ‘walk through MCC, ask your friends,’ but since most of the organization meetings this fall are going on. be on Zoom or Google Meets or other ways, it really means taking different officers and sending an email,” Paestella said.

“Just because you’re not a broadcast person doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t not do a show,” he said.
Paestella recommends visiting four departments – two that one would think would fit, and two that will surprise students’ families and friends.
Over the summer, the SUNY Student Association has expanded its board to offer additional programming on engagement, participation, and even in this time of COVID, addressing social justice, Black Lives Matter, or other events.
“Due to remote working and the challenges that will come with bringing everything into place this fall, we are not sure that the new organization process will continue, so right now there are no new organizations that are diverse, interested, passionate or philosophic. about where we are,” Paestella said.

This is the first time students can participate, participate and be a part of it and not be in the arena, allowing them to log in from anywhere in the US or abroad. Before this, if the Lakers weren’t in the arena during that time, they didn’t have the same opportunity.
“I actually like to run expos from home, so it’s almost shocking to me that here’s an event where I’m used to interacting on the floor with thousands of people and I’m going to be out front with my laptop… wherever whoever they are can call in and they can even log in on their phone between classes,” Paestella said.
When asked about the possibility of holding hybrid student participation fairs in the future, Paestella stated that it would allow for more students to participate, and the college could even consider doing this in a synchronous or asynchronous model. our versatile services and resources for undergraduate and graduate students.
