The number of confirmed coronavirus cases at SUNY Oswego since the start of the fall semester has risen to 223, more than half of those detected in the past week, according to state data.

The school has reported 127 cases since Sept. 12, according to the school’s website, which was updated Saturday afternoon.

The outbreak has forced the school to temporarily shift to online learning, halt in-person dining on campus and suspend all fall sports and extracurricular activities.
Students stay on campus. Health experts say that’s better than sending them home, where they could inadvertently continue to spread the virus.
The New York University system requires schools with 100 or more cases in a two-week period to switch to online learning. These 100 cases must include students visiting or living on campus.
As of this weekend, SUNY Oswego has passed the 100-case threshold. As of Saturday, the school had reported 110 cases in the two-week period from September 12 to September 25.

As of Saturday afternoon, the school currently has 126 active cases. According to the school, 97 people have recovered.
SUNY Oneonta reported four new confirmed cases Saturday, bringing the school’s caseload to 680 since the start of the semester. The outbreak forced Otsego County to switch to distance learning for the rest of the semester.
