Summer Associate Resume Example – The good thing about finding an internship: no one expects you to have decades of experience in the field. The hard part: you’re still trying to get that foot in the door, so you don’t have a lot of relevant experience yet. So how do you balance this with your resume and make sure you’re presenting a resume that will get you hired as an intern?
First, the good: Kaitlyn’s resume is short, which is what an internship resume should be (one page maximum). Not so good: Kaitlyn’s bio is unfocused and unspecific, missing key information. A good internship resume is tailored specifically to the job you want. With these two factors, the person reading the bio is likely to glaze right over Kaitlyn’s bio and move on to the next bio. Another problematic element is her experience: she lacks dates, so it is impossible to know whether she lists her work chronologically or by relevance. Jobs are also kind of all over the place – Kaitlyn has worked in food service and as a receptionist at a dental office. Are any of these positions or skills relevant to the job you are applying for? It’s hard to say because her resume has been so generic up to this point. It’s important to tailor the experience and skills on your resume to the job you want, and make sure you highlight your most relevant experience.

Kaitlyn also unwittingly sets off a few alarms with her resume. Her email address is obviously personal – it would be much better if she used her school email address or created one based on her name. He also lists his best skills as “social media”. This might not be a problem (and realistically it can happen anyway as part of the recruiting process), but it’s something Kaitlyn should watch out for on her resume.

In Jeff’s case, it’s about his academic performance and the skills he wants to demonstrate. His experience is fairly limited (and here he excludes anything that might not be relevant to the internship he wants), but he is careful to include in the job description previous duties that match what Senator Coughlin’s office is looking for.
