For actors, your resume and avatar are the two basic tools you need to get started and start looking for a job in the business. Those are basically what makes you do that all-important audition with the casting director and possibly book the job.
Special Skills To Put On Acting Resume
Your CV is a compilation of key data; it contains your physical condition, work experience, training, seminar courses you have attended and so-called “special skills” – and of course your contact information. There are many different custom resume templates, but if you want to be taken seriously, you should stick to and follow a common industry format.
Actor Resume Template
When you’re just starting out, the whole resume can look a little intimidating…I mean what are you going to write? But keep in mind that we are all beginners at some point and you really just need to get started.
Here are some tips to help you format your resume for beginners or new actors and make it look classy and professional.
List your phone number, email address and website and contact information for the agent. Don’t put your address on your resume, if you’re using a personal phone number, be careful with the sending address!
These include your height, weight, hair and eye color. Never put your age on your resume. If under 18, you can include the age range, i.e. “11 – 14”

This includes SAG-AFTRA, Equity/AEA, ACTRA, BAFTA and some of the others mentioned above. If you are not a member of any specific union, please ignore this section. Some would consider SAG-AFTRA eligible if they were able to join a union. This is a personal decision and should be made with your representative.
OK, now that we’re done with the introduction, let’s move on to what’s actually in the body of the resume. Your work experience or credits fall into the following categories: Film, Television, Drama, Advertising, Voiceover, Short Film, New Media.
Experienced actors don’t put all of this on their resume and almost never include commercials and voiceovers
New Actors: Since you don’t have many credits yet, consider combining categories such as Film and Television, Short Films, and New Media

You want to organize these sections strategically, and maybe even have different resumes, depending on your purpose. If you’re looking to book TV roles, don’t put your drama credits first, even if they’re bigger roles.
Film and TV: For this section, please list the following: title of production, type of character (indicating size), network or production company, and name of director
Short Films and New Media: There are so many things to do today that it deserves its own category, and is probably where you start as a new actor. The format is the same as above: production name, character type (indicating size), network or production company and director name
Theaters: Under the theaters section, you’ll list: show title, your character, theater company, and production location. You don’t have to put the director’s name unless it’s a very big production and they’re well known. Yes, it’s perfectly fine to list community theaters, or school productions for young actors.
How To Make An Acting Resume With No Experience
Training and Education: The casting director is interested in who you study with and what you study. Did you go to Yale Drama School? Have you ever taken a voice class? Audition skills, scene research, improvisation, stage combat, firearm training…what about it? You understand what I’m talking about…? Your training paints a picture of who you are as an actor, where your interests and talents lie, and gives the actor an idea of your current skill level. Performance classes and seminars are usually organized by subject, teacher and location.
Special Skills: Finally, there are special skills. It also helps to give the actor a sense of who you are as a person, and maybe you book a job because of what you do. (I booked a job a few years ago in part because I’m a certified scuba diver.) This is also where you’re very proficient in any language, accent or dialect. If you have a lovely British accent, don’t put it here. There are a lot of British actors working in North America who just want the job from an American, but if your parents are Italian and you’re Italian from fiction, definitely include it!
Important! If you say you can do something, you better be sure you can – they will ask you and maybe even test you before auditioning! ! A few years ago, I was talking to a casting director who needed a real diver, like swimming. She had about 100 potential actresses auditioning, so she rented a commercial swimming pool and let them out, showing off their diving abilities and auditioning in swimsuits – only about a third of them would actually dive! Seriously, don’t lie.
For new actors: If you don’t have anything to fill in these sections, this is the first thing you have to pay attention to – do something, do
