Professional Resume Services Reddit – A resume that includes bullet points like “the fraternity record for most shots of vodka in one night” got “Angelina Lee” interviews at top companies.

Angelina Lee, a software engineer based in the Bay Area with a resume stacked with top jobs at Instagram, Zillow and LinkedIn, had no problem getting interviews at Reddit, Airbnb, Atlassian and other well-known tech companies. Lee added qualifications such as “Team Coffee Maker – ensuring team 6 was fully caffeinated with wet Antarctic coffee beans in 14 nm particles” and achievements such as “Connected with Reid Hoffman on LinkedIn” as bullet points and continued to receive interview requests from Robinhood, Dropbox, Airtable and more.

The only problem is that Angelina Lee doesn’t exist. When I called him Monday, a deep male voice answered the phone. “Hi. It’s Angelina, I guess.”

Do These Reddit Career Hacks Actually Work?

The person who posted this resume is a software engineer, and lives somewhere in the US, but has agreed to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation from his current employer and future job prospects. He started this small job experiment with a fake resume because he and his software engineering friends always had a hard time securing interviews, even after sending out hundreds of applications. (He said he chose a woman’s name because he thought it would make it harder for the fake resume to find him.) He wanted to test whether there was any truth to the notion of where you work and where. you really went to school makes all the difference.

It is truer than he could have ever guessed. Sure, getting interview offers just because of a stacked resume makes sense, to a certain degree – which technology company would not be impressed with work in LinkedIn, Zillow and Instagram? But it was when Lee took things a step further that the experience became surreal. No matter how many rare, infamous bullets he added, the interviews kept coming. “Phi Beta Phi – fraternity record for most shots of vodka in one night” even made him some calls. Review screenshots of his conversations with recruiters.

Lee’s experience suggests that many technology companies are not seriously evolving the way they recruit and hire, even if they are in a very difficult war to hire anyone they see as “top technology talent.” And it’s not just the implementation stage that shows notable flaws in the system. At Google, the famously brutal recruitment system has many people turning down interviews when they realize the process could involve months of preparatory work. At Facebook, nearly half of the company’s engineering candidates turned down job offers in the first quarter of 2021, leading a senior recruiting member to write a memo “Why hiring is hard now” for engineering employees.

Once the recruiters kept asking Lee for an interview even after the addition of “Phi Beta Phi”, he wanted to know if they had actually read his resume. Her character began by asking “Would you be able to tell me what part of my resume stood out for this job?” And the recruiters would respond with generic comments about his skills and past achievements.

“It went downhill from there. I tested how far I could push these bullets before I stopped getting answers. I literally didn’t stop getting answers,” he said. “There were many, I did not want to face it. I tried, like, to have them look at my resume, I answered, ‘Hey what part of my resume for this job fits better?’ ‘Oh, your skills and the company you work for are solid.’ And I’m like, ‘OK.'”

Lee’s experience also lends credence to the anecdotal stories that appear almost daily on Twitter, Reddit and elsewhere that accuse tech companies of being biased against people with experience at elite institutions. While almost all of the companies tested by Lee claim to have hiring practices that consider people with a range of backgrounds, there is a clear system in place here that favors certain elements over a resume.

The most likely explanation for what’s happening here involves, of course, automation. Most companies use an electronic tool that filters resumes based on keywords – in this case, those keywords probably include Microsoft, Instagram and UC Berkeley. While this is slowly becoming common knowledge outside the recruiting world, the average job applicant probably assumes the recruiter has at least read the resume that is properly filtered through the system. Given Lee’s experience, they clearly don’t.

“I don’t know about the recruiter’s side, maybe I’m totally ignorant, but it can’t be difficult to read a couple of bullets each,” Lee said. The last time he applied for an engineering job with his current resume, he applied to nearly 300 jobs, got about 3% of the interviews he applied for, and ended up choosing between two job offers.

Meta’s new Quest Pro VR headset costs $1,500, the company revealed at its Connect developer conference on Tuesday. The company justifies the price of the Quest Pro with its series of technical improvements, including eye sensors and face-tracking for better avatar animations, redesigned controllers, color transmission for immersive mixed reality experiences, and a higher visual fidelity that makes it is possible to read text and do other work-related tasks without tiring the eyes.

However, Meta is not positioning the Quest Pro as an enterprise device, preferring to use traditional retail channels to sell the headset to prosumers and VR enthusiasts for work and play. In a conversation with , Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth talked about the Quest Pro’s positioning, its price, and the kinds of features that could find their way from the Quest Pro to the next consumer Quest model.

Bosworth also addressed recent criticism of Horizon Worlds (including a leaked memo in which metaverse VP Vishal Shah announced a “quality shutdown” for the rest of the year) as well as the impact of the current economic climate on the company’s VR investments.

With the Quest Pro, Meta puts a greater emphasis on performance, and the price is out of reach for many consumers. At the same time, Meta still sells it through consumer channels, and does not directly target the enterprise like Microsoft or Magic Leap do. So who is this device?

This is definitely still a prosumer device. We want to expand on case work, but relative to the cost of a HoloLens, we’re not necessarily in the same ballpark.

Fed Up With The Job Search, A Software Engineer Created A Ridiculous Fake Resume And Got A 90% Response Rate

There’s this whole spectrum. On the one hand, you have consumer [devices]. Consumers want things that are lighter and cheaper, [with a] more attractive industrial design. Adjacent to that, you find in enterprises, where people are willing to tolerate a little more cost, a little more heft, a little less design in exchange for more functionality. As you move further out, you get into industrial use, and military, where you’ve seen HoloLens and Magic Leap targeting energy.

We are still far from industrial, military applications of these. We think this is a general computing platform that will appeal to everyone. We have seen gaming now. We saw fitness. And productivity is something that is not exclusive [to] the enterprise. People buy laptops and phones through consumer channels, and use them both personally and professionally.

I will say that you are certainly right: the price is higher. There are a lot of factors driving this, but one of the biggest is that we are working hard on completely new technologies that no longer have a deep supply chain around them.

There are some things that we definitely want to continue moving forward. Mixed reality and social presence are two features that bring a lot of extra cost, weight, thermals to the headset. For eye tracking and face tracking, it’s a lot of extra cameras. In case of mixed reality, it’s camera and calculate. These are really features that we are excited to see how people react to Quest Pro. This will inform to what degree we [bring them in] different forms of factors.
