New Grad Pa Resume
New Grad Pa Resume – Creating your first resume as a recent or recent PA graduate is simple and straightforward. Sure, you don’t have much experience to add yet, but that doesn’t stop you from creating a professional-looking resume.
Filtering information and determining what is essential and what is not is the primary function of a practical PA. Showing potential employers that you have the ability to do this will create a good first impression.
New Grad Pa Resume
As a new graduate, education should be the first section of your resume. Here, you’ll list your degrees (including a pending PA degree if you’re a recent graduate), issuing institutions, and graduation dates. You can include your master’s thesis topic with your PA degree information.

Do not include any education or training that does not count toward a degree, such as CNA certification or prerequisites.
Don’t include your GPA, it’s not relevant (gasp). listen to me People who interview and hire new graduate PAs (like me) are fully aware of the average undergraduate GPA of PA students (currently 3.58). Unless you blow this out of the water, listing your GPA will do you no good.
Second, PA school calculations of GPAs vary more than degrees. My PA school GPA was 0.00. Seriously. My program is pass/fail where you get a score of 90 or higher or you’re out.
Employers want you to get through PA school, have the ability to pass the PANCE, and be eligible for a state license, not your GPA. Additionally, including your GPA at the beginning of your resume (where it naturally goes) reminds employers that you don’t have a lot of experience. You don’t want them to be distracted by this thought while you’re trying to impress them with the rest of your resume.

The next section of your resume should be Clinical Experience, where you briefly list your clinical rotations. This is the section of the resume that I see most often go astray. Avoid including unnecessary clinical rotation details in an attempt to make your resume longer. Readers of your resume will wonder why you think it’s relevant or that you didn’t bother to tailor your resume to the position.
Here, you have the opportunity to present your resume for a specific position. If you have a rotation in the specialty you are applying for, expand on it. If you don’t have experience in a specialty, you can highlight another or two related skills. For example, if you’re applying for a dermatology position, you might expand on:
When applying for new positions you should change this section as appropriate, making sure each version highlights your skills for that particular position. If you don’t have position related rotations, list them.
In this section, include your NCCPA and license information or state that they are pending. You can include your state PA organization or AAPA membership information here, as well as any CPR or ACLS certification. Memberships are not required, so you can list it here so there is no obligation to join the PA organization.

Here you provide 3 (and only 3) professional references. Do not put “Available on request”. This makes employers think you have to scramble to find three people willing to vouch for you.
If you’re including more additional sections than necessary, consider shortening your clinical experience section to keep your resume to one page.
If you have professional experience other than prior PA employment (CNA, EMT, etc.), list it here (or combine it in your clinical experience section). If you’ve had a career before, this will help explain any gaps in education and highlight your ability to work with others professionally.
This is related to a specific position – you are a CNA at a hospice and you are applying for a palliative care position.
International Relations Resume
Include this section only if you have a legitimate publication (in a medical journal) or presentation (at a medical conference). Most people don’t have this section, so don’t sweat leaving it out of your resume.
You should include a volunteer section only if your efforts are substantial. If you’ve volunteered at a few 5K races, skip it. If you have a wide variety of volunteer experience, pick 3 and list them. This section should not be larger than your other more relevant sections.
Include this section only if you have more than one award. You promised us “awards” in the header, so it must be more than one. Changing the title to “Award” makes it seem lonely and awkward.
It should only include PA-school items. Making the Dean’s List or just being an undergraduate can be included in your academic department.

Do you know a second language well enough to communicate with, educate and consent to patients? If so, create a section and list it. Otherwise, employers don’t need to know about it.
You don’t need any objective section. Someone with a marketing degree might need to explain that they are looking for a digital marketing sales position, but having a PA degree and looking for a PA position is pretty self-explanatory. Your resume will be position-specific in the “experience” section, so an objective is unnecessary.
The skill section is completely redundant. We hope you can perform H&P, provide patient care, and make treatment decisions. No additional skills are required.
Please don’t do it. You can access them if it comes up during the interview. But especially as a new grad, including them can be seen as an attempt to “plump” a thin resume.

As a new graduate, your resume should be no longer than one page (without any margin or font size manipulation). If you’re having trouble keeping it on one page, go back and ask yourself if each item in your content is concise and relevant. Be sure to save it as a PDF file so that your formatting is consistent after you submit it.
Sections 4-6 are discussed in most new-grad resumes. Don’t feel obligated to include additional sections if they feel like a stretch. A well-composed, concise resume edited for relevance is far better than one that simply fills the page.
