Fewer high school students work part-time jobs during the school year as well, so you’ll be in demand no matter when you want to work.
According to a Brookings Institution report on BLS statistics, about half of high school students aged 16 to 19 were employed in 2000, down from 58% during its peak year in 1979. By 2018, the percentage had declined and had stabilized to 35%, which is lowest recorded level

The first, and perhaps the most important, fact that you should know about your job search is that most employers use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Employers receive hundreds of high schools for each vacancy. They don’t have time to research all of them, so they use the ATS software to do the initial screening.
This means that you have to figure out how these algorithm-based systems work and how your high school bypasses the digital filter. Employers program the software to examine specific skills and traits that are reflected in keywords and phrases. ATS scans them on this basis, then records and ranks them. You will only downgrade if it is in the higher order range.
Unless you already have some work experience, the most commonly used time format may not be suitable for organizing a high school student. It’s the most obvious way for job candidates to organize their experience and qualifications below their employer’s titles and dates, in order from newest to oldest.
But for high school students or recent graduates who have little or nothing to include in the traditional employment history section, other formats can be ideal. The look you choose should depend on the type of job and industry, and how best to present yourself as a perfect match.
