Mail Handler Job Description Resume
Mail Handler Job Description Resume – Postal service workers sell postal products and collect, sort and deliver mail. They are the backbone of the postal system, and are responsible for ensuring that your Christmas cards are delivered on time!
Unfortunately, this career declines at 14%. That means there is fierce competition for jobs, so your resume needs to be really exceptional to help you stand out from the crowd.

The first step in drafting your resume is deciding which resume format to use. This depends on your career experience and skill set.

Tip: you should only include jobs that are relevant to the job you are applying for, so leave out any previous jobs that don’t fit. The good news is that a lot of previous experience, especially in the administration or customer service industries, can be adapted to fit your postal service worker resume. For example, if you worked as a Delivery Driver, then it has many related skills that you can include.
Tip: When in doubt, choose the Reverse-Chronological resume format. For more details, check out our How to Write Your Resume in Reverse-Chronological Order guide.
For a Postal Service Worker career, hiring managers want to look at your resume and get a sense of the following:
The best format for a Career is either the Reverse-Chronological resume format or the Functional resume format. This first shows your career trajectory — how you’ve grown professionally and expanded your work experience and knowledge base (See: How to Show Your Job Promotions on a Resume). The latter, the Functional Resume format, demonstrates your skills and abilities to employers.

While this is certainly an optional section, your resume summary is one of the best ways to succeed in that brief glance.
A resume summary is a sentence or two at the top of your paper that summarizes your entire resume. This is the punch line that gets the resume reviewer wanting to know more.
This is a bad resume summary because it’s vague and doesn’t help you stand out from the crowd.
A pleasant and organized Postal Service worker with 2 years experience delivering packages. Awarded twice for efficiency and timeliness of mail delivery and sorting. Seeking a supervisor position to further my administrative and customer service abilities.
Sample Inspiring Resumes
This is a good resume summary because it gives a sense of your personality – that you are personable and organized. It also shows that you have a range of experiences in the post office industry, from delivery to sorting mail. The last sentence is a resume objective.
Although this is certainly optional, it can help employers understand what you want from them and what you can offer. Put another way, a resume objective explains your intentions to employers. It can also help to show why you are a good fit for the job.

The next step in drafting your resume is to list your work experience. This includes the name of your job (See: The Right Way to List Job Titles on a Resume), the name of the location where you worked, and the length of time you worked.
One Page Resume Templates
Furthermore, write your resume experience in a way that anyone in your industry will understand. Do not use company-specific language.
For example, let’s say you worked at a place that called cash registers “advanced payment systems.” Not everyone is going to know what this means, so it’s best to stick with the common name, or a hiring manager might not know what you’re talking about, and if the manager is confused, they are more likely to discard your resume and move on to the next.
You should also quantify your resume whenever possible. This means adding a number – such as a dollar amount or a percentage – to your achievements. Measuring your resume gives the hiring manager a more concrete idea of your performance in the workplace. For example, say you “trained 3 employees,” “improved customer satisfaction by 20% according to feedback surveys,” or “saved the business $30,000 by switching to new software.”
Tip: One way to measure your resume is by listing your achievements and awards. For example, if you were awarded Employee of the Month in your workplace or if you were recognized by your industry.

Skills show the hiring manager what you can do for the company – without taking up too much space in the “work experience” part of your resume.
There are two types of skills – soft and hard. “Soft” skills are those that cannot be measured and are more indicative of your personality. Examples include leadership, problem solving and communication. In contrast, “hard” skills are those learned through formal education. Examples include computer technology, programming and foreign languages, and certifications.
Postal Service Workers need soft skills such as patience, organization and communication. Most hard skills, such as using the sales software, are learned on the job.

Tip: When completing this section on your resume, review the employer’s job requirements. Try to incorporate some of the language they use. For example, if the job description states that they need someone with “exceptional communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team,” then make sure you include some of these keywords. List “Communication” and “Organization” under the skills section.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are several requirements. First, most Postal Service Workers need to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be either a US citizen or permanent resident alien. If you are male, you must also be registered with the Selective Service.
Once you are accepted, you must undergo a criminal background check and pass a physical exam and drug test. You may even be asked to demonstrate that you can lift and handle heavy mail sacks. Mail carriers who drive on the job must have a safe driving record, and applicants for those jobs must receive a passing grade on a road test.
