Junior Developer Resume Template
Junior Developer Resume Template – You are the person your friends go to when they want someone to build their “billion dollar app.” You know the difference between JavaScript, Python, HTML, and CSS, and you can modify a system better than a provider that removes roaches.
Whether you’re a front-end web developer or working on a full stack, you’ve got what you need to build a great website.

When it comes to getting a job, however, it takes more than your skills in web development to convince hiring managers to give you an interview. You also have to be good at writing profiles, which can often feel more difficult than completely solving the Heisenbug under race conditions.

We know a thing or two when it comes to referencing, and we’ve interviewed thousands of developers to put our wisdom into seven free developer examples. We’ve also written a short guide on how to write the perfect resume so you can land that all-important first-step interview, whether you’re a senior or an entry-level developer.
We don’t mean to state the obvious, but companies are flocking to hire web developers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that demand for these roles will grow by 28 percent over the next eight years (a faster than average rate).
The demands of these roles (and the high salaries) leave no question as to why people pursue web development careers. Not to mention, developers get to solve very good problems. Who wouldn’t want to do that?
However, with all the candidates applying for web developer jobs, how can you demonstrate your technical skills while also highlighting your ability to deliver meaningful results? To be honest, it’s not easy.

We’ve had the unique pleasure (and sometimes, pain) of working directly with hiring managers at companies like Microsoft, Stripe, and Chegg to understand what they’re looking for in web developers. Additionally, we want to provide you with that knowledge so that you are no longer in the dark about the hiring process.
We know that writing a resume is about as much fun as moving or going to the dentist. Our goal is to simplify this process so you can focus on what you love to do, creating web applications.
The primary function of the skills section of your resume is to help you get past automated keyword filters, known as Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Analysis of these systems is ongoing to help hiring managers reduce over time. While they’re useful, they can also get you down if you’re not careful.
As a web developer, you probably thought that the way to improve your profile is by including as many keywords as possible. Unfortunately, the technical hiring manager will also review your resume, and many keywords are not interesting to read.

Nothing is more of a red flag for someone hiring web developers than a candidate who claims to know 11 different programming languages and 23 different platforms. As a rule of thumb, if you don’t do well in a boarding session for a language, don’t include it on your resume.
You don’t want to burn bridges when applying for jobs. The only surefire way to burn a bridge is to outright lie about your qualifications. It’s just not worth it. With software, there isn’t much room to “fake it until you make it.”
For web developers in particular, it’s more important to show a deep understanding of a few languages and frameworks than to show breadth across a whole bunch of different things.
It seems like a new JavaScript framework comes out every week and you wouldn’t be expected to be an expert in the flavor of the week by any acceptable employer.

Again, you are not expected to have all of these on your resume. In fact, including all these skills can reflect negatively on your candidacy. What developer knows each of these things well enough to be tested for them?
The skills you include on your resume are also a function of the type of roles you apply for. For example, if you’re applying for a front-end web developer role, then your Rails experience might not be relevant.
Don’t mention your soft skills in your skills section! Companies don’t automatically filter for soft skills keywords and it doesn’t convince a hiring manager to see that you have “communication” as a skill. What does that mean without context?
If you’re an entry-level developer, we recommend using the “skills” skill analysis because you won’t have many work projects to demonstrate your mastery of the skills you have.
Entry Level Software Engineer Resume Sample & Guide
The format of your resume is straightforward. The goal: keep it simple, and make it easy to read. Here are the things you need to do to properly format your web developer resume:
Most of these tips are self-explanatory, but we’ll explain a few to make sure the tips are clear.
To keep you on your toes, let’s talk about the last bullet point first. For any web developer role (and this goes double for smaller web developer roles) the hiring manager reviews on average over 60 resumes.
This means that they are basically looking for a reason to say “no” to someone instead of “yes” because they only have so much time to devote to continuing the review. Don’t let a silly grammar or spelling mistake be the reason you get put in the “no” pile.

Read your resume, then read it again. Then read five more times. Then send it to your mom/friend/sibling/cousin/colleague/whoever to make sure another human catches basic mistakes that a machine can’t catch.
You want to try to keep your profile on one page. We know that’s a tough pill to swallow as you want to include all of your qualifications to help you land a job.
Unfortunately, hiring managers are busy, and cannot spend as much time as they would like to review all the resumes they receive for a given role. For that reason, your resume needs to be a one-page template.
Once you get the interview, you can spend more time explaining your past experience and skills. Until then, keep your profile short. You’re more than your one-page resume, but you can’t overwhelm hiring managers at first.

That one page of information can vary between candidates with more or less experience. A top-level developer can’t afford to waste too much space on their learning curve. Conversely, an entry-level web developer needs to convince the hiring manager that they have the right skills and knowledge, so they can include the appropriate courses and their GPA.
Most of the recovery goals we’ve seen from web developers shouldn’t be included in their resume. What makes them so bad?
Picture this: you’re reading a resume, and the very first line says “I’m a web developer looking to grow my skills.” Not terrible, but not good. Can you hire someone along those lines?
The goal of the resume should be a sales pitch of two to three sentences that describe your experience, skills and passion for the job. Most of the time, you don’t even need to include it!

Remember, real estate is important on a one-page profile. Don’t waste it by saying something that doesn’t improve your chances of getting an interview. To illustrate the point, here are a few examples of objective recovery.
I’m looking forward to using my skills as a front-end developer to improve and emphasize on products for a client-first organization.
As the daughter of small business owners, I’m excited about the prospect of using my full-stack Python experience to further Stripe’s mission to make payments accessible to companies of all sizes around the world.
Numbers speak louder than words. While there’s no way to directly rate a web developer’s work (and no, lines of code written don’t count as a metric), you can try to gauge the impact of the projects you’ve worked on.

Where possible, include tangible results of your projects. This does not always mean that you have affected the income in some way. Here are some other ways your work can have an impact (and this is not all, be creative):
It’s okay if these effects are rough estimates. As long as you can justify your qualifications in an interview setting, hang on! A back-of-the-envelope calculation is perfectly acceptable here.
When a hiring manager reviews your resume, you want to make the case that you deserve an interview regardless of where they direct their attention on your resume. To do this, you need to convince them that you will have a meaningful impact on their business.
After all, companies hire developers (and anyone, really) to have a positive impact on the business. What better way to show that you can make it as a developer than to show that you’ve had a big impact in all of your previous roles?

To hammer this home one more time, consider these two examples. They talk about the same work experience, and the only difference is that one candidate expressed his impact in numbers. Who would you hire?
