First, go to LinkedIn and filter to “People”. Set “Current Company” as Accenture and “University” as “Delhi University”. You will find that 2,300+ Delhi University professionals are currently working at Accenture. Then select one of the pro’s profiles.
Once you have selected the professional’s profile, go to their training section. What you will be able to see is that most international students/professionals tend to get their bachelors in their home country and come to the states/other places for their masters/MBA. In this case, it’s true: the pro earned his bachelor’s degree in his hometown and his MBA in the states at Indiana University. You have identified who is an international professional that you can reach out to.
Once you’ve identified this is an international professional, see their About and Experience section. It shows a brief overview of who they are and also identifies that they work at the company you are interested in (Accenture in this case).
Once you connect, most professionals do NOT respond. Simply send another message tailored to their About & Experience section. It can be about the following topics:

Heroes Among Us: “Always Take Care of Your People and Lead by Example” With Lance Lawson of Burr…When I first met Jonathan Chavez at one of our workshops at UC Santa Barbara, he was a soft-spoken student who exemplified the qualities of a true underdog: coming from a first-generation background where he was the first in his family to go to college, he wanted to be an example that many could look up to.
I remember after our workshop he was one of the only students who followed up saying this:
How This Millennial Skipped Applications, Landed His Dream Tech Job Using Social Media
A simple thank you always goes a long way, especially when less than 1% of our participants will follow up with us on a consistent basis.
That’s how Jonathan, also known as Johnny, landed in his dream industry when he had no connections to any company with the help of .
When Johnny was first on his job search, he thought it was impossible to get an offer especially in the entertainment industry. He applied for a job while attending UC Santa Barbara and couldn’t “beat the ATS,” also known as the “Applicant Tracking System.”
Many job seekers focus on beating the ATS, but we believe that instead of beating the ATS, why not make real genuine connections with people in your dream industry who can give you the insights to get you interviews that will hopefully convert to offers?
Where Is God When Death Threatens Your World?
This is exactly what Johnny did in his job search instead of just “applying” to every job he was interested in. This is what he did:
Instead of applying only to the roles he was interested in, he used our job search tips, including reaching out to professionals and hiring managers on LinkedIn. By doing this, he was able to gain insights from these people to put on his resume, which helped him stand out.
What made him stand out was sending personal invitations to those in his dream industry. What he would do is the following:
Johnny then made a cover letter similar to mine that got me into Snapchat which he included in his application. According to my recent survey on LinkedIn, 63% of people say yes to attaching a cover letter to your application even if it is considered “optional”, and Johnny did this with all his applications. One concept we believe in is that you shouldn’t spend so much time on a cover letter, as networking and your resume are more important parts of the application process.

However, Johnny says he didn’t take hours on end to just write a personal letter. Instead, he had advisors from his university look at it to get constructive feedback that he incorporated into his cover letter.
Finally, Johnny used his college resources from the University of Southern California to help him with his job applications. Not only did he get his cover letter checked then, but he was also able to network with USC entertainment faculty to gain insights on how he could stand out for his particular industry.
Jennifer Floto, who is a professor of public relations at the University of Southern California, played a big influence on Johnny. He was able to schedule a one-on-one with her to go over the job description and do interview prep. Because of her, he not only learned more about the world of PR, but also applied her job search tips to his resume by conveying his writing skill level to get a standout resume.
Johnny says he had a high success rate when he heard back from companies he applied to early on. He also says to network early as well; by doing so, he was able to gain insights that he could use for his application.

When Johnny edited his resume with us at , his resume was bland and didn’t stand out. But by adding numbers and metrics to his resume, we were able to show recruiters that he made an impact in every role he was in. He also used InDesign to make his resume to clean up the design and content that was tailored for the entertainment industry.
In Johnny’s previous interviews, he was unable to articulate his answers because of the nerves that set in. However, he changed this by doing the following:
A method that we teach in our online course, Johnny was able to convey his answers using the STAR method to show the interviewer that he had the collaborative skills, adaptability and hard skills related to the specific role.
Some of the most important ways to “break the ice” with your interviewer is to show your interest in the company through subtle cues and low-key interview tips. What we did with Johnny was help him exemplify why he was so passionate about the company and what his favorite shows were. During his interview, Johnny mentioned that his favorite movie was Joker which created a conversation with the interviewer rather than through scripted questions. By doing this, you will be able to become more comfortable and crack your interviews.

Finally, Johnny says to not only be casual during your interviews but bring the energy. All of this starts with your posture; be sure to stand up straight, wear appropriate clothing, and above all, smile. By doing this, you won’t feel nervous or overwhelmed during your interview.
Johnny is one of the many great success stories we’ve had over the past year. He exemplifies a true example of an underdog who became a winner and was able to use the strategies we teach to land his dream industry.
For all those out there in your job search, your time will come soon. All you need is one yes, one
