Investment Banking Summer Analyst Resume

Investment Banking Summer Analyst Resume – Today you’re going to learn how to hack your resume when you’re trying to turn it into an investment banking resume with no experience under your belt.

These tricks are exactly what we give our students when they think they don’t have the relevant experience to get the most of investment banking or a level 1 job interview.

And while you might think it’s because you have an investment banking resume with no experience, it actually boils down to these three main reasons:

Investment Banking Resume Template

True, but surprisingly common. Students don’t always understand what their templates should look like, and who can blame them? No one teaches these things. So they throw together some work experience and think it’s good enough for an investment banking interview. Yes.

If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, here’s the gist of it—it’s a really, really ugly resume template for investment banking.

Because if you’re applying for an entry-level financial analyst job, they know your skills. They know your bottom line. There is no need to put it on top.

Well, we could go on, but let’s take a break. It’s a mess. Enough said. Again, this is why you really, really want to make sure you have the right investment banking resume template when you’re doing this.

Never apply online unless you have the right template. Because you go for results. And ugly resumes won’t get them. Weakness number two – redundancy. That is…

Have you ever been on the short end of a one-way conversation? It gets old fast. Rambling is a serious sin because time is money. Now, take that concept and multiply it by a gajillion (give or take).

Your investment banking resume is one in a thousand. A hiring manager needs to sift through those resumes as quickly as possible so he can get to the best applicants. That is, the candidates who have the strongest background; the most appropriate and highest working experience.

Again, when you are in school or have recently left school, your resume should be one page. This is a clear example of what not to do.

This resume looks a little more organized and he has things in proper order. But alas, he still gets dropped 99% of the time because it’s too long.

Let’s face it. As a student or recent graduate, you have little or no investment banking experience. If your resume is two pages long, you’re doing it wrong. It’s not formatted properly and looks like it was rushed. Thus, your resume should always be one page, clean and well organized.

Tip: Later, you will become a seasoned veteran of your craft. So two pages makes more sense. Less than 3 years? One page. More than 3 years of experience? It may take two pages.

This is a big one. So many students screw this up. Let’s look at this example.

They raised the school. GPA looks great. ACT score, SAT math also looks good. It has a very good structure, with practical experience, listing a number of materials and then extracurriculars and then some additional information on top.

For example, the first thing on a resume in work experience is something called The Coolest Water. I don’t know what it is, but apparently it has something to do with social media. How does this relate to the job you are applying for?

Below I see some internships that are a little more relevant, but this person has some of the best credentials hidden far away on a resume. Put your best foot forward. That is, list your best credentials as high as possible while maintaining proper structure.

Now that we’ve covered the pitfalls you should avoid, let’s dive into the specifics of creating an effective investment banking resume — despite little or no experience. I call it the Spin & Shine Technique.

Investment Banking Recruiting Calendar 2021 2022

It’s a really, really great way to take experiences or internships or activities that you might have done, turn them around, illuminate them, and make them seem much more meaningful and analytical.

So when you’re applying for these different types of jobs (whether it’s investment banking, asset management, private equity, or any type of 1st job for that matter), it’s your experience and stuff. It would look much more relevant and much better on your resume.

First, identify the activities and experiences you’ve been involved in that you can spin and shine to make it seem more relevant and analytical.

Next, you’ll want to skip all the tedious administrative work you’ve been doing at work. Instead, focus on analytical and relevant things that you have done in your internship or school activities.

This is a very common problem that I see many students have where they have done internships or activities in school, especially when they are younger – maybe 90% of the work they did was administrative and boring. , and it had nothing to do with anything at all.

But maybe 10% of the time they’ve actually done some weird stuff that might be analytical or more in line with the kinds of jobs they really want. You want to ignore 90% of what you did in your internship and only focus on that 10% when writing your resume.

Last but far from least – be specific. When you spin and gloss over the internships and activities you participated in, be really specific about what you did.

Let’s say you’re a sophomore or a freshman and you work at this real estate investment firm or something like that. Maybe a family friend took you in and honestly over the summer you were just doing a bunch of boring administrative work for a portfolio manager or something.

Or just a little. BUT, maybe 10% of the time you would actually do something great. Let’s look at the arrows we have here.

Well, two things here. First, we changed the title. This is another thing I see students do a lot. They gave their internship a title that sounds… well… creepy. Before that we had an administrative intern, right? That doesn’t sound good. You need to exaggerate – a little – to say what you did.

We went from administrative intern to real estate investment intern. It just sounds so much better. See my three sub-arrows added here.

Now let’s look at the next two shots. Remember, the whole idea here is that we want to focus on the 10% of analytics and awesome stuff that we’ve done. We want to exaggerate a little. It sounds like the internship you had gave you valuable work experience.

Entry Level Resume Examples For 2022

You may have to exaggerate a bit here. But you should develop at least one deal or one investment or something that you contributed to during the internship that we can highlight in your banking resume using a subsection like this.

For example, let’s say you were able to make a small contribution to a commercial real estate development deal that the company was considering. It looks a little better, right.

Now, when someone is looking at your investment banking routine, this is going to jump out, this whole section here, because it’s a subsection, it’s specific. And most importantly, it’s the type of work experience they’re looking for.

Investment Banking Summer Analyst Resume

I see a real estate investment intern here who will suddenly be in the middle of this. I think, “Wow, they really worked on a deal. They worked on an investment. That’s pretty cool.”

Pls Destroy My Resume

If you’ve done something like this, you’ve probably contributed in some way where you’ve built a model to determine if the deal is worth it. That’s the angle I went with here.

Again, ignore 90% of the boring and irrelevant things you’ve done. Focus on the interesting 10% that grabs their attention. Then expand it.

Use the specifications. Talk about a deal you heard about over the summer. Just say you contributed to it. Ideally, this is best used when you’re trying to talk about jobs or internships you’ve done.

If you were selling phones in a store, you don’t really want to use sub-arrows like these unless… You can say, “Hey, I made 100k worth of sales with this, this, and this.” So maybe you want to do that, but for internships or things that you’ve done where they’re on the analytical side and you think you can expand using subscripts like this, this is the way to go. it’s really, really great to have this experience. pop your investment banking resume.
