I know this sequence of events all too well because I, too, once struggled to break into investment banking.
Everyone else around me was talking about an internship on Wall Street and the glamor and prestige of working for a bank like Morgan Stanley – I would have given anything to be an Excel monkey in a tiny cubicle there!
I had no contacts, and I had no idea how to write a winning resume or cover letter that would compel interviewers to meet me.

I read books; I looked at the research; And I interviewed IB professionals to see what they wanted to see, and how they wanted to present it.
I also reviewed the resumes of people who had already entered and looked for common success factors.
Finally, after a few iterations, I got my resume right and landed an interview and then an offer at Goldman Sachs.
