As a recent graduate, education should be your first section of the curriculum. Here you will list your diplomas (including the pending PA degree if you are a recent graduate), granting institutions, and graduation dates. Don’t include your GPA, it’s not relevant (gasp). Listen to me. People who interview and hire recent PA graduates (like me) are fully aware of the average college GPA of PA students (currently 3.58). Unless you blow it out of the water, listing your GPA doesn’t do you any favor.
Second, PA school calculations of GPAs are even more variable than college students. My PA school GPA was 0.00. Seriously. My schedule was pass / fail when you were 90 or older or you were out.
Employers care that you got through PA school, that you have the ability to pass the PANCE, and that you are eligible for a state license, not what your GPA was. Also, including your GPA at the beginning of your resume (where it would naturally go) reminds employers that you don’t have much experience. You don’t want them distracted by this thought while you’re trying to wow them with the rest of your resume.

The next section of your resume should be Clinical Experience, where you concisely list your clinical rotations. This is the section of the resume that I see lost most often. Avoid adding unnecessary clinical rotation details in an effort to lengthen your resume. Those who read your resume will wonder why you think it’s relevant or assume you haven’t bothered to adapt your resume to the position.
Here you have the opportunity to make your resume relevant to a particular position. If you’ve had a rotation in the specialty you’re applying for, expand it. If you’re new to the specialty, you can highlight relevant skills from another rotation or two. For example, if you are applying for a position in dermatology, you could expand like this:
You should edit this section appropriately when applying for new positions, making sure each version highlights your skills for that particular position. If you don’t have any relevant rotations for a position, keep them as a list.
In this section, please include your NCCPA and license information or state that they are pending. Information about the state PA organization or AAPA members, as well as any CPR or ACLS certification, can be included here. Memberships are not required, so don’t feel compelled to join a PA organization just to be able to list it here.
